Dr. Amanda Stead is a professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders and serves as the coordinator of the school's simulation program. A Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), she specializes in healthcare simulation, geriatric care, and the role of speech-language pathologists in progressive illness, dementia, and end-of-life care.

Dr. Stead’s passion for working with individuals living with dementia is deeply personal, shaped by family experiences and years of work in long-term care settings. She is committed to advancing public and professional understanding of how speech-language pathologists support patients across the spectrum of aging and serious illness.

At 51³Ô¹Ï, Dr. Stead teaches graduate-level courses in progressive illness, end-of-life care, and counseling. Her dedication to teaching has been recognized with numerous honors, including: Teaching & Research Award, Oregon Speech-Language and Hearing Association (2013); President’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching, 51³Ô¹Ï (2019); and Certificate of Recognition for Special Contributions in Higher Education, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (2022)

Her current research explores best practices in preparing future clinicians for geriatric care and the development of high-quality healthcare simulations to enhance clinical training. In her free time, they enjoy traveling, spending time with their children, gaming and watching anime. They are also an avid reader who is always exploring new stories and worlds.
