51�Թ�’s School of Dental Hygiene Studies will participate in a pilot project to help determine the feasibility of adding a dental therapist to a patient’s dental care team. Dental therapists can perform many of the preventive treatments of a dental hygienist and some of the procedures a dentist provides, but do not hold doctorates in dentistry.

51�Թ� alumnus Dr. Shinji Seki OD ’79 will receive the eighth annual Kamelia Massih Prize for a Distinguished Optometrist on May 19 at the university’s graduate and professional Commencement ceremony.

The successful practitioner in the Seattle area has built a thriving optical and hearing center, and served his local community and optometric profession with distinction for more than 30 years.

Dr. Weberling received the honor at Pacific's spring commencement on May 21, 2016.

Dr. Bleything is a former College of Optometry dean and professor and also served as the university provost.

Named in honor of the late Dr. Massih, the award recognizes a Pacific graduate who has served the optometric profession with distinction.

Dori Carlson OD '89 has been named the third recipient of the Kamelia Massih Prize for a Distinguished Optometrist. She received the award May 18, 2013, at 51�Թ�'s graduate Commencement ceremony.

The Spirit Mountain Community Fund in Oregon has awarded 51�Թ�'s EyeClinic Cornelius a capital grant of $30,000 to help build out a new clinic within the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center's new Wellness Center in Cornelius.

A group of Japanese optometrists are saying “arigatou” to 51�Թ� with gifts for the College of Optometry.

51�Թ� has named alumnus Stanley J. Yamane '65, OD '66, the 2012 recipient of the University's Kamelia Massih Prize for a Distinguished Optometrist.

Award honors an outstanding optometry alumnus or alumna for care in serving both patients and communities.
