The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for mandatory reporters to identify and report suspected child abuse or neglect.  Unless specified as exempt in this policy, 51³Ô¹Ï employees are mandatory reporters of abuse and neglect by law.  The duty to report suspected child abuse or neglect cases as a mandatory reporter is a 24-hour-a-day, 7 days-a-week responsibility.  This means that if you encounter suspected child abuse or an abuser when you are not at work, mandatory reporters still have to report immediately to the Department of Human Services (DHS) or law enforcement.
