Nonstop Health Tips: Substantiations, what are they and why?

Body

Nonstop regularly reviews purchases made with the Nonstop Visa card to confirm acceptable use. This process is called substantiation.

  • If the substantiation process finds that a charge does not qualify for Nonstop Health, the employee must repay that money back into your organization's account with Nonstop. So it's important that the employee confirms all charges are covered and providers are in-network before paying with their Nonstop Visa card!
  • It's also important for employees to read Nonstop's substantiation emails (see "Understand the substantiation emails" below).

Substantiation is important to our clients in two ways:

  • It ensures your organization's money is spent appropriately
  • The more employees understand the process, the better their Nonstop Health experience will be!

Understand the substantiation emails
If a charge on a member’s Visa card is flagged for substantiation (we don’t substantiate every charge), Nonstop will email the employee up to three times to request documentation for the charge in question.

  1. The first email is sent when Nonstop's system flags a Nonstop Visa card swipe or charge for a closer look. The email outlines what charge has been flagged, and what documentation Nonstop needs to determine if the expense qualifies for the program.
  2. A second email is sent as a reminder two weeks later, with the same information as the first email.
  3. If the employee doesn’t provide the required documentation or make repayment, a third email is sent two weeks after the second email. If we don't hear back from the employee either requesting an extension or providing documentation, their Nonstop Visa card is suspended (and that's noted in the email). Simultaneously, Nonstop also contacts the substantiation contact at your organization (Benefits and Leaves Specialist) to confirm the person’s email address, and to ask them for help in reaching that person.
